What time is the event?

The event is all day.  Ballywack Shack Cafe is the only business that opens at 8am. Most businesses are open by 10am. Majority of all activities conclude at 5pm.  Please refer to the schedule of activities.

Is this event free to attend?

Yes, this event is free to attend but not all activities are free. Please refer to the schedule of activities.

Our event is only made possible by the support of sponsors and donations. If you would like to donate to this event we would be super grateful.

How do I locate the 25 participating Occoquan businesses?

There will be a map of locations available at our info booth under the underpass near Earth Addictions shop.

Each business will be marked by a balloon of the same color.

Ask a volunteer they will all have green lanyards.

Are the businesses ADA accessible?

Accepted Answer

Being that the town is historic nearly all businesses do have a few steps to enter their space. Madigan's Waterfront and VFW do have the most steps to enter.

13 Magickal Moons is up a slight incline on a brick road.

Where can I find a public toilet?

Accepted Answer

Public toilets are available at the end of Mill street at the turn around. There are also toilets available at the Mill St. Draft Garden (200 Mill Street).

Will there be food?

Yes! Participating businesses serving food - Madigan's Waterfront, VFW Post 7916, Graffiti Cat Pizza, and Ballywacks Shack Cafe.  Click here to see their menus for the day.

Where do I park?

Occoquan has limited parking.  Here is a link to the timed parking spots in Occoquan. Please keep in mind police actively monitor these spaces and will issue tickets if you exceed the time. 
We recommend ride share like Lyft. 
We also recommend parking at the Workhouse Arts Center and taking our shuttle service into Occoquan.  Buy your shuttle pass here

Are children welcome to this event?

Swords Brooms & Magical Beasts welcomes everyone to this event! Please keep in mind that not all art is age appropriate and many of our authors are on the spicy side.

When I'm at the event where can I go if I have questions?

We will have an info booth set up at the underpass near the shop Earth Addictions.

We will have volunteers with green lanyards walking around and will provide help if needed.

Can I come in costume?

Sure! We welcome everyone to dress however they feel.  Many of the business owners and staff will be dressed up.

We have a whole day of scheduled activities plus 3 market places of vendors to shop.  Please refer to the schedule of activities.

Will there be photography or videotaping?

Yes, by entering an event or program of Swords, Brooms & Magical Beasts, you are entering an area where photography, audio and video recording may occur. Your entry and presence on the event premises constitutes your consent to be photographed, filmed, and/or otherwise recorded and to the release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction of any and all recorded media of your appearance, voice, and name for any purpose whatsoever in perpetuity in connection with the Swords, Brooms & Magical Beasts and its initiatives, including, by way of example only, use on websites, in social media, news and advertising. 
By entering the event premises, you waive and release any claims you may have related to the use of recorded media of you at the event, including, without limitation, any right to inspect or approve the photo, video or audio recording of you, any claims for invasion of privacy, violation of the right of publicity, defamation, and copyright infringement or for any fees for use of such record media.

You understand that all photography, filming and/or recording will be done in reliance on this consent. If you do not agree to the foregoing, please do not enter the event premises.
