Step into a world where fantasy meets reality as we enter our third year of the magical saga, Swords, Brooms & Magical Beasts, from the imagination of  Tarot Artist Laine (she/her) of Lainemindinventions, featured in the local gallery of Art A La Carte. 

 

How it all started:

Launched over three years ago in March, Swords Brooms & Magical Beasts began as an innovative interactive art show curated by Tarot Artist Laine. Its primary goal was to showcase the diverse talents of artists featured within the intimate setting of Art A La Carte Gallery. The event’s distinctive name emerged after extensive brainstorming, chosen to serve as an umbrella that encapsulates the variety of artistic genres represented.

The inaugural event was free to the public and featured an engaging mix of activities including tarot readings, costumes, a scavenger hunt, hands-on art demonstrations, and more. This eclectic blend resonated deeply with the community, prompting a swift return later that same year in August due to popular demand. Laine’s deep affection for the town of Occoquan inspired an expansion strategy, inviting local businesses to participate and contribute, thereby enriching the event’s collaborative spirit and community roots.

Embracing the concept of storytelling, each iteration of the event is envisioned as a new chapter within an ongoing saga. While the overarching title, Swords Brooms & Magical Beasts, remains constant, each event is distinguished by its own evocative subtitle that reflects its unique theme and atmosphere. This narrative approach adds layers of intrigue and continuity, encouraging attendees to anticipate and explore each new chapter.

Looking ahead, the March 2026 chapter is titled Whispers of Dawn By the Water’s Edge, promising a fresh and immersive experience that continues to blend artistry, mysticism, and community engagement along the serene waterfront of Occoquan.​​
